Position title: Hydrographer

Location: Adelaide SA

Water Data Services is a family-owned environmental consultancy working in the environmental sector for over 25 years. Our core business is providing data collection and evaluation services to our Clients.

We are currently seeking a hydrographer (or Graduate) to join our team of water specialists in Adelaide. You will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of water monitoring sites and equipment to enable the collection, management and dissemination of accurate water monitoring data, ensuring accuracy and quality.

Ideally you will be a university graduate with a degree in water engineering or environmental science.

We have a broad base of Clients including the public and private sectors and you will be required to develop strong and successful long term business relationships.

Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Collect, process and manage Hydrometric surface water, groundwater, water quality and meteorological monitoring data.
  • Collect water quality samples.
  • Design, construct, install, manage and maintain monitoring infrastructure
  • Operate, calibrate and maintain monitoring instrumentation including basic fault diagnosis and/or resolution
  • Undertake flow gaugings to develop, review and/or verify flow ratings.
  • Provide technical input to tenders and quotes.
  • Add value to the data that is collected by writing technical reports.
  • Report on the performance of individual water monitoring sites from telemetered/non-telemetered datasets.
  • Be willing to travel and work in remote regions for 1 to 2 week field trips multiple times per year.
  • Work in a team environment although at times you will need to work alone during operational field work

Skills and Qualifications required:

  • Diploma of Water Industry Operations, hydrography or a degree in Science, Engineering, or the equivalent experience working as a hydrographer
  • Current Driver’s Licence
  • Proficient swimmer
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • A willingness and ability to carry out field work in all weather conditions that can be extreme at times and for prolonged periods of time. For example working in flood conditions may be required.

    • Current First Aid Certificate
    • Boat Licence
    • Competency in driving four-wheel drive vehicles.
    • Competent in using HYDSTRA
    • Current Covid-19 vaccination certificate is required for access to many Client work sites.
